The climate problem

Why timber struggles on this island

Sint Maarten asks a lot of an outdoor structure. Constant salt spray on the windward coast, intense UV year-round, torrential rain in season and a hurricane belt that tests everything that is bolted down. Timber decking answers all of that badly: it swells, it greys, it splinters, and it needs sanding and oiling on a cycle that never ends.

Aluminium sidesteps the two failure modes that matter most here — it does not rust and it cannot rot. That is not a marketing line; it is a property of the material.

  • Qualicoat-certified powder coating — the reference standard for architectural aluminium
  • Stainless steel fixings throughout, usually the first thing to fail on a seafront installation
  • Anti-slip board surface that keeps its grip when wet — relevant around pools and on rain-exposed decks
  • Non-porous: mould and algae do not take hold the way they do in timber and in tile grout
  • Maintenance is rinsing with clean water — no annual sanding, no oiling, no rot treatment

These are our French West Indies reference prices, shown for guidance. For a project in Sint Maarten, shipping, customs clearance and any locally applicable taxes are additional and are itemised on your quote, so you see one final figure before committing. Pergola installation is charged separately at 60 € per m².

Given the island's exposure, the Premium pergola range — certified to 180-220 km/h — is usually the sensible specification on open and seafront plots. We confirm the right range for your site rather than selling you the more expensive one by reflex.

Coverage

Across the Dutch side

We quote projects across Sint Maarten for private villas, rental properties and hospitality alike — and because each corner of the island puts different demands on a terrace, each area has its own page:

We are a French West Indies company operating from Saint-François in Guadeloupe and Les Trois-Îlets in Martinique. We do not claim a local Sint Maarten office, and we would rather tell you that up front: what you get is a manufacturer that ships, installs and puts the full cost in writing before you commit.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you take on projects in Sint Maarten?

Yes, on request. We work from our two established workshops in Guadeloupe and Martinique, and we quote Sint Maarten projects individually because freight, customs clearance and local taxes have to be costed for each job.

What will it actually cost me in Sint Maarten?

Our reference prices are 450 to 550 € per m² for installed aluminium decking, 550 to 650 € per m² for a pergola structure, and from 255 € per linear metre for railings. Those figures are our French West Indies reference rates. For Sint Maarten, shipping, customs duties and any local taxes are additional and are set out explicitly on your quote — so you see one final figure before you commit.

Can I be quoted in US dollars?

Ask us. Our reference pricing is in euros; tell us your preferred currency when you enquire and we will address it on the quote.

How does the warranty work outside the French territories?

Our installations in the French West Indies carry the ten-year structural warranty provided under French construction law (garantie décennale). Sint Maarten sits outside that legal framework, so the warranty terms that apply to your project are stated in writing on your quote before you commit. Ask us and we will set them out plainly.

How long does a project take?

Manufacturing runs from 7 to 45 days depending on the scope. For Sint Maarten, add shipping time from Guadeloupe or Martinique — the full schedule is confirmed on your quote rather than estimated verbally.

Do you work in English?

Yes. Enquiries, quotes and site coordination are all handled in English.
