Why bioclimatic

A roof that follows the island's weather

Sint Maarten weather rarely sits still: hard sun, steady trade winds, sudden squalls — sometimes all three in one afternoon. A fixed roof makes a terrace dark and hot; a fabric shade gives up in the first real blow. The bioclimatic pergola answers with motorised aluminium louvres: open to let the breeze through, angled to cut the glare, closed into a sealed roof when the rain arrives.

  • Louvres rotate on demand — shade and natural ventilation without closing the space in
  • Sealed-roof position with water drained through the posts via built-in gutters
  • Powder-coated aluminium (Qualicoat-certified) and stainless fixings for permanent salt air
  • Optional façade awning (80 €/m²), LED lighting built into the louvres (55 €/linear m), side louvres for privacy
  • Maintenance is a fresh-water rinse — no repainting, no rot, no rust

Wind rating

Certified structures for the hurricane belt

Every GT MAT pergola is wind-certified, and the rating is written on your quote — not implied in a brochure. The Classic structure is certified for winds of 160 to 180 km/h; the Premium structure for 180 to 220 km/h, with reinforced anchoring on every post. On open or seafront plots, Premium is usually the sensible specification — the site survey confirms the right range for your exposure rather than defaulting to the more expensive one.

Designed by us

You deal with the designer, not a reseller

Nothing we sell comes from a supplier's catalogue. Every GT MAT product is designed by our own design office in the French West Indies — our R&D team draws each profile, assembly and finish, our partner factory produces to our drawings, and our own teams install. For your project it means genuinely made-to-measure spans and heights, the exact RAL shade you want, and one point of contact from first sketch to final bolt: the people who designed it.

We are honest about geography too: our bases are in Saint-François (Guadeloupe) and Les Trois-Îlets (Martinique), and we ship to Sint Maarten with freight, duties and schedule set out in writing. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bioclimatic pergola cost in Sint Maarten?

Our reference prices are 550 € per m² for the Classic structure (wind-certified 160-180 km/h) and 650 € per m² for Premium (180-220 km/h), excluding installation at 60 € per m². For Sint Maarten, shipping, customs clearance and any local taxes are additional and are itemised line by line on your quote — you see one final figure before you commit.

Which range should I choose on an exposed plot?

On sheltered plots the Classic range (160-180 km/h) is usually adequate. On seafront and hilltop plots — Pointe Blanche, Guana Bay, the exposed east — we generally recommend Premium, wind-certified for 180 to 220 km/h. The site survey settles it, and the certification retained is stated in writing on your quote.

Do the louvres really keep the rain out?

Yes. The aluminium louvres rotate to shade and ventilate, and close into a sealed roof when it rains, with water evacuated through the posts via built-in gutters. You switch from an open, breezy terrace to a dry shelter in seconds.

How long does a pergola project take for Sint Maarten?

Manufacturing to our drawings runs 7 to 45 days depending on scope, plus shipping from Guadeloupe or Martinique. The full schedule — design, production, freight, installation — is confirmed in writing on your quote.

How does the warranty work on the Dutch side?

Our installations in the French territories carry the ten-year structural warranty of French construction law. Sint Maarten sits outside that framework, so the warranty terms that apply to your project are stated in writing on your quote before you commit.

Do you handle everything in English?

Yes. Enquiries, quotes and site coordination are all available in English, and this page's quote form reaches us directly.
